![]() ![]() Erosion has completely removed these layers in most places, leaving behind only the small isolated hills and knobs seen today. ![]() These ledges are made of more resistant layers of rock and are the last remnants of layers that once were continuous across this entire region. Many of the knobs in Cydonia, including the "face," have several flat ledges partway up the hill slopes. Since that time the Mars Orbiter Camera on the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft has provided detailed views of this hill that clearly show that it is a normal geologic feature with slopes and ridges carved by eons of wind and downslope motion due to gravity. The 3-km long "face" knob was first imaged by the Viking spacecraft in the 1970's and was seen by some to resemble a face carved into the rocks of Mars. In this "big picture" view the Cydonia region is seen to be covered with dozens of interesting knobs and mesas that are similar in many ways to the knob named the "face" - so many in fact that it requires care to discover the "face" among this jumble of knobs and hills. Image shows a remnant massif located in the Cydonia region. This image provides a broad perspective of the landscape and geology of the Cydonia region, showing numerous knobs and hills that have been eroded into a remarkable array of different shapes. Face on Mars The original 'Face on Mars' image taken by NASAs Viking 1 orbiter, in grey scale, on July 25, 1976. ![]() At this time I was thinking someone NOT really wanted us to see this 'HEAD'! But look at all it offers us all to see in it's details. The THEMIS infrared camera provides an excellent regional view of Mars - this image covers an area 32 kilometers (~20 miles) by approximately 200 kilometers (~125 miles) at a resolution of 100 meters per picture element ('pixel'). It was not until May of 2001 when we were given another face image from Mars Global Surveyor, but this time, it was an above viewing angle to the 'HEAD'! Yet NOT the whole 'HEAD'! But a swath cut across it. Yet I can still even at this angle, I can still see clearly a face! The most commonly known and probably the most distinct of the unexplained features can be seen in images of the face on Mars in its Cydonia region. The face, first spotted in July 1976 in pictures from the Viking 1 orbiter, is claimed by some to be evidence of an ancient Martian civilisation. Though many were not happy with this, & many were also not seeing a face at all. But that is me in my research & study of the various images over the years of the 'HEAD'. Many were disappointed at this but I found it useful & shows things that the above view does not show, for some reason or other. Space Astronomy Planets Mars Mars Hoaxes 6 Stubborn Red Planet Conspiracy Theories News By Elizabeth Howell published 27 August 2015 NASAs Hubble Space Telescope snapped this shot of Mars. This helps but at the same time not helped, as what was expected was a view of the 'HEAD' from an above point of view & not an angle. But what is interesting in this 1998 Face release, it appears to have been taken from an angle. There was also controversy & conspiracy allegations even over the release of this image. It was not until the Mars Odyssey Mission after 2001, that we have gotten better views of the Face of Cydonia that is better than the resolution of Viking images showing the 'HEAD'. So as I said, we will instead look at the imagery of this 'HEAD' over the ensuing years since 1976 until today by various Mars Missions imagery, to show that this feature still appears to us as it did back then, as looking like a 'HEAD' with a Face! I just wanted to explain myself somewhat as to why I am not getting into explaining the so called REAL history of this 'HEAD' find on this page. Implicating that not only is this a 'HEAD' showing a Face, but that this 'HEAD' is NOT only NOT alone, but it is NOT even lonely! Which leads us into the conspiracy areas to what we see, & not see, on Mars.īut we are jumping ahead. Face on Mars ApShortly after midnight Sunday morning (5 April 1998 12:39 AM PST), the Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) on the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) spacecraft successfully acquired a high resolution image of the 'Face on Mars' feature in the Cydonia region. The truth of what NASA really knows & what NASA really sees in their images, & raises questions also about what they also see & have of Mars image data that the public does not & is also not aware of. I believe that what the public was told is a cover story to the truth. This falls into the reasoning I have regards to the so called REAL history of this 'HEAD' finding by NASA, & what I believe to be a POLICY in force to which NASA will never admit to it's artificiality aspects to this 'HEAD'. Even though as we all shall see that over the years as available imagery was acquired that still shows that this 'HEAD' is still looking to be appearing as a 'HEAD'! Despite the NASA official policy claim mind you.
