![]() “Huh? What do you mean? You can see them too, can’t you?” Lloyd looked up at the sky, as if noticing them for the first time since sitting down. “They’re really beautiful tonight, aren’t they?” “I just thought I’d come look at the stars,” Colette answered. “So what are you doing out here, anyways?” She could feel the heat run down her throat to join the warmth in her core and she doubted even Flanoir’s winds could give her a chill in this moment. The coffee was so hot on her tongue it almost burned, but even that was its own delight. “Hey, it's not half bad!”Ĭolette giggled as she took a sip from her own cup. “No tricks this time, I promise.” He chuckled sheepishly, lifting his own cup to his lips and taking a long drink from it. It spilled over and filled her chest as surely as the earthy tones filled her nostrils when she breathed it in. The heat twined through her fingers and fluttered up her arms before nesting over her heart. Thought it would be nice with the night getting a bit cold and all.”Ĭolette turned to see a mug held out and Lloyd’s face shining with pride.Ĭolette took the cup and let her fingers curl around the ceramic. “Hey Colette.” Lloyd circled the log and sat down next to her. Her lips had already curled into a smile before his voice filled the air. His footsteps were unmistakable they crunched through the brush as straightforward as he was. That she could sit here, that she could watch the stars and hear her friends and even think for herself how wonderful it all was… it was all thanks to this. He’d so carefully crafted it, all for her sake. She had long since memorized each bevel, each engraving. Even all the way out here she could hear all of them.Ĭolette ran her fingers across her Cruxis Crystal, letting them slip around the keycrest Lloyd had made for her. The sound of Genis rolling over and muttering something into his pillow, the turn of a page in the book Professor Raine had gotten in Palmacosta the way Regal’s shackles clinked together when he cleaned from dinner, and the whetstone Presea rhythmically passed across her axe. More than anything she could hear it in the distant crackle of their campfire. She could hear the chirps of insects and the whispers of the wind between the trees. She could hear it too this world’s beauty. An owl perched on a tree in the distance and Colette could see every fluff of its feathers outlined by the silver filigree of moonlight. The sparkle of the stars and the rustle of the leaves, the animals hurrying back to their burrows for the night and those just coming out from their daytime slumber. ![]() She always thought so now Colette saw it so much more sharply than she ever had. The night itself seemed to sigh, cool and refreshing and her lungs filled with it until she was fit to burst. It ran fingers through the blonde strands of her hair and pulled them across her cheek until she giggled softly at how it tickled against her skin. Colette was the first in line to its spectacle a fallen log as her chair and the soft pull of the wind her companion. It only felt like a handful of moments since dusk drew back the curtains to a midnight coloured sky scattered with the diamond twinkle of stars across its gown.
